Hashtags…Fad or Not?
Hashtagging…It started as a way for social media users to connect with each other- sort of a fad- but it looks like it’s here to stay, and has now become a way to promote products.
Twitter was the first social media platform to use hashtags, but now they can be seen on Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest, Tumblr, Google+, and more.
The general uses of hashtags include:
Identifying content
Categorizing Content
Conveying a message in a small space
Joining a group
Creating a hashtag for a recurring event
Hashtags can help you reach a greater number of people, if you’re using them correctly. You want to be sure to use hashtags that are trending and relevant.
You definitely don’t want to use hashtags that are too long or #RequireAnAdvancedDegreeToRead.
Also, the consensus is that you shouldn’t use anymore than 3 hashtags in any one post.
